Essential Oils Effect on Pregnancy

Essential oils are derived from plants and are used for physical and psychological benefits. In aromatherapy these oils are used to relax the body or they are also used in diluted form for topical application to skin. There are many essential oils present which could be beneficial during pregnancy. And even there are essential oils which should be avoided as they can cause harm to mother and unborn baby.

Significance: the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy advises to avoid using essential oils during pregnancy. Pregnant women who want to use essential oils because of their beneficial effects should wait until the first trimester. And before using these oils they should take doctors advice.

Beneficial effects: there are several essential oils which are considered as having less risk of negative effects. Some of these oils are chamomile it is for claming, lavender for soothing aches and to combat depression. Geranium helps to improve circulation and enhances mood. So during pregnancy you can use these essential oils as they can be beneficial for you.

Essential oils to avoid: certain essential oils can have harmful effects like they may cause uterine contractions which can lead to miscarriage, they can even cause hormone imbalance. The essential oils to avoid during pregnancy include bay, camphor, anise, basil, carrot, caraway. So it is advised to avoid the essential oils which are harmful during pregnancy. And before using any of these oils it is necessary to consult a doctor.
