As per guidelines released by federal government, Americans are in habit of consuming more salt than required. Higher consumption of salt can lead to various problems including heart problems, high blood pressure and other such problems.
This condition can’t be just because of salt. There are many other sources also that contain salt as ingredient that people might not consider while consuming.
In commercial food, the approximate amount of salt that is added during processing is around 75 percent. In restaurants also, a major percentage is added during preparation.
As per guidelines, for those who are more than 50 years of age and reeling under different problems including diabetes, kidney disease, etc… should take lesser than 1500 milligrams in a day. Around 99 percent people exceed this limit.
Other people can consume up to 2300 milligrams per day but in this group also many consume more than this limit, says the data.

It is good news for those concerned with the health at social level. This is for the first time in history that the absolute number of cases of tuberculosis have been recorded falling. It has been made clear in a report released by WHO, recently.

The Global Tuberculosis Control Report 2011 has revealed that the number of people who became victim of TB was 8.8 million in the year 2010. The number shows a fall for the first time from its peak of 9 million in 2009.
The news is good but if we go by the words from Baan Ki-Moon, the UN General Secretary, the progress is under risk of reversal due to lack of funding.
TB is a disease that has haunted the civilization for long in the twentieth century. Caused by the infection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, it mainly affects the tissues of lung. But it eventually can spread to other parts of the body. Though the treatment has been developed for the disease the people dying due to this disease are still as high as 1.4 million in numbers (year 2010). The figure has certainly to do with the issues beyond medicine and include poverty and unhygienic conditions millions billion of people are still cursed to live in.
The treatment requires a long course of antibiotics for months together among others. Any break in this course can aggravate the patient’s condition soon. The risk of reversal is particularly due to the dependence of low-income countries on external sources.

It’s good news. For the first time, numbers of people suffering from TB have declined, said world Health Organization.
As per latest data released by World Health Organization, there is also a decline in global death rates. Still deficiency of funds can be a problem, especially with regards to Tuberculosis.
As per the general secretary, we can’t be complacent when it comes to disease.
In 2003, around 1.8 million people died from tuberculosis; the figure reduced to 1.4 million in 2010.
Challenges Ahead
Good progress was done by China, cited the organization.
“This is major progress. But it is no cause for complacency,” the UN Secretary-General said in a statement.
“Too many millions still develop TB each year, and too many die. I urge serious and sustained support for TB prevention and care, especially for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people.”
Again, the funding issue seems to be a bigger problem. The organization warns a gap of around $1 billion for the year 2012.
